Cestus Secret Weapon in the Belmont's Curse Demo

Full route to the demo's hidden Cestus gauntlets in the Sewer Reservoir, plus how the damage-stacking glow and Arcane Whip Uppercut combo actually work.

Belmont's Curse Cestus: How to Unlock the Demo's Hidden Gauntlets

The Cestus is the only hidden weapon in the Belmont's Curse demo, and the game never points you at it. You find it by beating The Fallen, taking the Arcana Whip into the Sewer Reservoir, and whipping straight up from one grate platform to reveal an Anchor that does not exist until you swing at it. Open the chest at the top and the developers congratulate you in-game.

The route in five steps, based on the demo as of 2026-10-05:

  1. Beat The Fallen — the Arcana Whip is yours after the fight.
  2. Enter the Sewer Reservoir, the room immediately after the first Mirror of Life save point.
  3. Whip-climb to a grate platform in the middle of the huge background staircase.
  4. Whip straight up above you to reveal the hidden Anchor, then hook it.
  5. Jump onto the huge treasure chest and interact. The room is also full of enemies, so equip the Cestus and test it.

Before you start: what the Cestus route needs

The route needs the Arcana Whip, which means clearing The Fallen first. If The Fallen is the wall you are hitting, the boss guide for The Fallen covers the Holy Cross timing that gets you past it.

One naming trap: Konami and PlayStation call the traversal tool the Arcana Whip, while the published demo route from Rock Paper Shotgun writes Arcane Whip. Same move. The whip also latches onto golden and purple Anchors and onto enemies, which is what sets up the punch combo below.

What the Cestus actually changes

The gauntlets trade reach for speed, and for a damage curve that rewards keeping the pressure on.

Weapon What official material says
Longsword (starting weapon) Balanced, with extra damage when you attack immediately after a backdash
Cestus (hidden) Shorter range, faster combos, and it increases in damage the more enemies you hit

Official source: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse hands-on report — "the cestus gauntlets are shorter range but have faster combos, and increase in damage the more I hit enemies with them."

Konami says the full game has seven weapon categories, each with its own style and special moves. Only the sword and the gauntlets are reachable in the demo and the other five are unnamed, so treat any list you see online as speculation. The weapons and relics guide tracks what is confirmed.

Route step by step: the grate platform and the hidden Anchor

1-2 — Take the whip, then find the Sewer Reservoir. The sewers end with The Fallen, whose Holy Cross attack becomes your first Arcana, and the whip unlocks at the same point — which is why this secret sits behind the demo's only boss. The reservoir itself is the room directly after the first Mirror of Life save point, the one with the tall background staircase.

3 — Climb to the grate platform. Whip-climb the room's Anchors until you stand on a grate platform directly in the middle of the huge staircase in the background, not on the foreground ledges. It reads as scenery until you land on it.

4 — Whip straight up. Aim the whip directly above you while standing on the grate; that upward swing is what reveals the hidden Anchor and the route above it.

The hidden Anchor only appears from an upward swing

Firing the whip forward or diagonally reveals nothing, and nothing on screen tells you the Anchor is there. If the whip does not latch, you are on the wrong platform or aiming too far ahead: step back to the centre of the grate and aim straight up.

5 — Hook it and take the chest room. The Anchor lifts Rose to a room with a huge treasure chest. Jump up and interact, and the game prints a developer message congratulating you on uncovering your first secret. The enemies there make it the safest place to learn the new combo.

How the damage-stacking glow works

The glow is your damage meter: as Rose lands punches she starts to glow, the visible signal that the gauntlets are ramping up. Stop attacking and it fades after a few seconds of doing nothing; keep hitting and it stays.

Behaviour Confirmed by What we can say
Damage rises with each enemy hit PlayStation Blog (official hands-on) Confirmed by Konami, with no numbers attached
Rose glows as the ramp builds Rock Paper Shotgun (demo hands-on) Visual feedback for the ramp
Glow fades after a few seconds of inactivity Rock Paper Shotgun (demo hands-on) Idle drops you back down; no published decay timer
Exact multiplier, hit count, or reset conditions — Not published by Konami or consistently reported

The mechanic is real and official; the scaling is not public information, and any multiplier you find online is untested. You can verify the shape of it in ten minutes: punch one zombie for a while, stop, punch again, and watch the glow drop and return.

The Arcane Whip Uppercut combo

The best thing about the gauntlets is a two-step combo with the whip: latch onto an enemy with the Arcana Whip and attack with the Cestus immediately afterwards, and Rose throws an Uppercut that hits very hard — strong enough in the sewers to smash through the zombies in your way.

That is one system, not two. Konami describes the whip grapple as something that can be chained into an instant attack, so the whip provides the grab and the weapon you hold decides the follow-up — Cestus plus whip latch equals Uppercut, which is why the gauntlets punch far above their short reach. If you have played Evil Empire's The Rogue Prince of Persia or the Dead Cells expansion Return to Castlevania, the fast-punch stacking will feel familiar.

Test the Uppercut in the chest room

The room you unlock with the Cestus is full of enemies: whip-latch one, then punch on the same input chain. A missed window just gets you a normal jab.

What is not documented yet

Whether the Uppercut also exists with the Longsword, and whether switching weapons mid-combo keeps the glow, is not covered by Konami's material or by the demo reporting. Both are worth testing at launch on 15 October 2026.

Where the Cestus sits among the demo's other secrets

The Cestus is the demo's only confirmed hidden weapon, and the one secret with a fixed route rather than a lucky find. Konami has said the full game's maps include destructible secret walls and areas locked until you gain a specific skill, and players report experience statues in the demo, but no reliable public checklist of demo collectibles exists. The complete demo secrets list separates verified finds from guesswork.

That is the official KONAMI key art from the announcement trailer, not a screenshot of the Sewer Reservoir — KONAMI has published no shot of the hidden Anchor or the chest room, so this page describes them in words.

Before you close the demo, check the save transfer rules: deleting the demo save is the only real way to lose this. The demo walkthrough puts this route in context, and the demo troubleshooting hub collects the fixes if a step refuses to work.

FAQ

Can you get the Cestus before beating The Fallen? No. The route depends entirely on the Arcana Whip, which you receive once you beat The Fallen, and every platforming step between the Sewer Reservoir and the chest needs it.

Is the Cestus missable? Nothing in the demo suggests it — no prompt, no timer, no warning that the chest can be locked out. Do it before you end a session and delete the save, the only way to lose it.

Does the Cestus carry over to the full game? Konami states demo save data transfers under four conditions: same platform and account, the demo save kept, the full game updated. Whether specific items carry across is not specified, so treat the gauntlets as a demo find.
