The questions the demo release produced: release date, platforms, save transfer, Switch 2, editions, roguelike or not, bosses, cast and Steam Deck.
Castlevania Belmont's Curse FAQ
Short answers to the questions the demo release produced, checked against Konami's own pages, the PlayStation Blog hands-on report and the storefront listings as of October 5, 2026. Where a question deserves its own page, the answer links there; where nothing has been announced, the answer says so rather than guessing.
Each answer carries its source tier, because that decides how much weight it can hold:
| Tier | What it means |
|---|---|
| Konami official | Konami's website, the PlayStation Blog hands-on report, or a storefront page |
| Media hands-on | An outlet that played the demo and reported what it saw |
| Player report | Steam forums, Reddit and store comments as of October 5, 2026 |

When does it release, on what, and for how much?
| Question | Short answer | Source | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| When does it come out? | October 15, 2026. Steam's field reads October 14 in some regions — the same launch, not a second date. | Konami official | Release date |
| Which platforms? | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam (Windows), Nintendo Switch. No PS4, no Xbox One, no native Switch 2 build. | Konami official | Release date |
| What does it cost? | $29.99 Standard, $39.99 Midnight Edition, demo free. | Storefront | Midnight Edition |
| What does the extra $10 buy? | A separate Sound & Art Gallery app (100+ artworks, 71 tracks), Trevor and Sypha costumes, the Family's Grace relic. | Konami official | Midnight Edition |
| What is the Night One Edition? | The $39.99 physical deluxe — digital Midnight's price, different extras. | Retail listings | Pre-order bonus |
| Does pre-ordering give me anything? | The Alucard Style Costume. Physical owners download it from the online store, and not every storefront lists it. | Konami official | Pre-order bonus |
| Platform | Frame rate | Standard / Midnight download |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | 60 fps | 8 GB / 10 GB |
| Xbox Series X|S | 60 fps | 8 GB / 10 GB |
| Steam (Windows) | 60 fps | 8 GB / 10 GB |
| Nintendo Switch | 30 fps, locked | 4 GB / 6 GB |
Official source: Konami product page — the frame-rate split ("60 fps, Nintendo Switch: 30 fps") and the download sizes come from there. Nintendo's store page lists the Switch download as 4.2 GB.
The demo: where it is, and whether your progress survives
| Question | Short answer | Source | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Is there a demo? | Yes, free on PS5, Xbox, Switch and Steam since October 1, 2026 — the opening chapter. | Konami official | Demo guide |
| How long, and where does it stop? | Roughly 30 to 45 minutes; it ends at The Fallen in the sewers, the demo's only boss. | Media hands-on | Walkthrough |
| Does my demo save carry over? | Konami says yes, under four conditions: same platform, same account, keep the demo save, update the full game. | Konami official | Transfer rules |
| What exactly transfers? | Not specified. Konami never says whether weapons, levels or tarot cards come across, so plan as if nothing does. | Konami official | Transfer rules |
| What can I actually play? | Rose only, two weapons (Longsword and the hidden Cestus), the Arcana Whip after the boss, and one Arcana: Holy Cross. | Demo plus Konami official | Secrets checklist |
Official source: Konami demo page — "Save data from the demo can be transferred to the full-version of the game," plus the four conditions that qualify it.
Transfer depends on the demo save still existing on the same account. Keep it installed and signed in — the most common way people lose a demo run.
Switch 2, Steam Deck and PC requirements
| Question | Short answer | Source | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Is there a Switch 2 edition? | No native build announced. Nintendo's store page lists the Switch release as "Supported — game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch." | Konami official | Switch 2 |
| What frame rate on Switch 2? | The Switch build is locked to 30 fps; Nintendo Life measured the demo near 60 fps on Switch 2 at unchanged 1080p, and some players still read it as 30. | Media hands-on plus players | Switch 2 |
| Will it run on Steam Deck? | No verdict yet. Steam lists Windows only at 60 fps; the free demo is the only real test. | Storefront | Steam Deck |
| What are the PC requirements? | Minimum Windows 11, Core i5-8400, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1650; recommended i5-10400, RTX 3060, also 16 GB. DirectX 11, 10 GB storage. | Storefront | PC requirements |
| My demo opens to black or stutters. Fix? | Usually the display side: refresh rate, VSync, a stale settings file. | Player reports | Black screen and FPS settings |

What kind of game is it, and who made it?
| Question | Short answer | Source | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roguelike or Metroidvania? | Hand-built maps, checkpoints, key gating, destructible walls. Konami's genre field reads "2D Action-Exploration" and PlayStation's hands-on says it steers away from permadeath and procedural levels. | Konami official | Metroidvania or roguelike |
| Did the Dead Cells team make it? | Evil Empire develops it alongside Konami; Motion Twin, which made the original Dead Cells, is involved as a partner. | Konami official | Metroidvania or roguelike |
| Is it a remake? | No. New story, new protagonist, 1499 Paris. | Konami official | First Castlevania |
| Where does it sit in the timeline? | 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. | Konami official | First Castlevania |
| Good first Castlevania? | Workable: frequent checkpoints, one boss in the demo, forgiving Relic options. It will not teach you the classics' structure. | Editorial | First Castlevania |
Bosses, characters and who is voicing them
| Question | Short answer | Source | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| How many bosses? | Six are named — The Fallen, Joan of Arc, Medusa, Isaac, Carmilla, Death — and the official page ends with "And more…". Only The Fallen is in the demo. | Konami official | The Fallen |
| How do I beat The Fallen? | Learn the Holy Cross slams and hit it out of its swing for a stagger. It has no invulnerability window. | Media hands-on plus players | The Fallen |
| Who voices Rose? | Abby Trott. Trevor is JB Blanc, Sypha Alejandra Reynoso, Dracula Graham McTavish. | Konami official | Voice cast |
| Can I play Trevor or Leon? | Rose is the only confirmed playable character; Trevor travels with her as an NPC. Konami has never mentioned Leon. | Konami official | Voice cast |
| Is The Fallen Leon Belmont? | No. Konami calls it nothing but a monster terrorizing Paris; "The Fallen is Leon" is community speculation. | Konami official | Voice cast |
Official source: Konami character page — every name and English voice credit above, plus the "And more…" that ends the roster.
Controls, Arcana, relics, and habits from older games
| Question | Short answer | Source | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| What are the controls? | Circle dodges and slides, a double-tap backflips, R2 fires the Arcana Whip, Triangle casts, L1 heals. Mana recovers when you kill enemies. | PlayStation Blog | Whip traversal |
| What are Arcana? | Bosses you beat are sealed into Rose's tarot cards and become spells plus a special action; Works of Mercy tasks unlock Blessings, which unlock Gifts. | Konami official | Arcana system |
| What are Relics? | Accessories, three equipped at once, with combat and exploration bonuses. Crypt Key fully restores health and mana on every chest. | PlayStation Blog | Weapons and relics |
| Sub-weapons like Symphony of the Night? | No. That menu is an older-series habit; official Belmont's Curse material shows weapons plus Relics instead. | Konami official | Weapons and relics |
| Is it hard, and is there a difficulty setting? | Konami's hands-on calls it punishing but fair, built on dodge invincibility frames and pattern learning. No difficulty setting is announced; demo players report damage sliders, which is a player report, not a spec. | Konami official plus players | Controls and difficulty |

| Question | Status |
|---|---|
| How many levels, how big is the map? | Konami promises "vast, elaborately crafted maps" and publishes no numbers. |
| How long is the full game? | No official figure. A 20-25 hour developer estimate circulates in press; it is on no Konami page. |
| Difficulty setting or custom mode? | No announcement. Player reports from the demo build only. |
| Who else is playable? | Nobody else announced. Trevor being playable is a fan theory. |
| Full Arcana deck and relic list? | Two Arcana are named (Holy Cross, Holy Light), plus one boss weapon. |
| All seven weapon types? | Seven categories confirmed; the demo shows Longsword and Cestus, the other five unnamed. |
| Boss order and stages? | Six names, no placements. |
| Endings, achievements, review scores? | Unannounced; the Steam page has no user reviews yet. |
| Native Switch 2 edition, or Game Pass day one? | Neither announced. |
A pre-launch FAQ that invents the rest is worse than one that stops; every line gets re-checked once the full version ships.
