PS5, Xbox Series, Steam and Switch compared on frame rate, resolution, file size and price, with a buy recommendation per player type.
Belmonts Curse PS5 vs Switch: Which Version Should You Buy?
Buy the PS5, Xbox Series or Steam version if smooth motion matters to you. Konami's own spec sheet caps Nintendo Switch at 30 fps and every other platform at 60 fps, and nothing else separates the builds. Buy the Switch version if a Switch or Switch 2 is the only screen you play on — media testing of the October 1, 2026 demo reports the Switch build running at roughly 60 fps on Switch 2 hardware.
Content and price are identical on every storefront, so this is a hardware decision rather than a features decision. Based on the demo as of October 5, 2026:
- Official frame rate: 60 fps on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, locked 30 fps on Nintendo Switch.
- No native Switch 2 build exists or has been announced. The Nintendo Store sells one Switch file marked "Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch."
- No platform publishes a resolution target, so "the PS5 version looks better" is unverifiable.

What Konami publishes for each platform
Konami's product page carries one short spec table for the entire release: a date, download sizes, and a single frame-rate line naming Switch as the exception. There are no per-platform resolution targets, no mode lists, and no announced Pro tier for any console.
| Platform | Official frame rate | Standard download | Midnight download | Demo download |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 60 fps | 8 GB | 10 GB | 6 GB |
| Xbox Series X|S (and Xbox on PC) | 60 fps | 8 GB | 10 GB | 5 GB |
| Steam (Windows) | 60 fps | 8 GB | 10 GB | 4 GB |
| Nintendo Switch | 30 fps (locked) | 4 GB | 6 GB | 3 GB |
Those are stated minimum capacities, not measured installs. The Nintendo Store page estimates 4.2 GB for its own hardware and lists that same 4.2 GB figure for Switch 2 — one file, two consoles — plus single-player TV, tabletop and handheld modes.
Official source: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse product page, Konami — "Frame Rate 60 fps (Nintendo Switch: 30 fps)" and "Minimum Required Capacity: Standard Edition 8 GB (Nintendo Switch: 4 GB), Midnight Edition 10 GB (Nintendo Switch: 6 GB)".
Official source: Demo page, Konami — supported platforms PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, with the 6 GB / 3 GB / 5 GB / 4 GB demo sizes above.
Price is the one place the platforms do not differ. Standard is $29.99 and Midnight is $39.99 in the US, the same pair on every storefront; the Standard price was verified on Steam and the Nintendo Store on October 5, 2026. What the extra $10 buys is covered in our Midnight Edition vs Standard breakdown.
The 30 fps gap is the whole decision
This is a 2D action-exploration game built around fast reads: a dodge and slide that has to be timed tightly, a whip grapple you swing across gaps with, and multi-hit weapon strings where each consecutive hit adds damage. At half the frame rate every animation plays over twice as many milliseconds, and the tell before a hit lands is half as long.
What nobody can tell you yet is how the picture compares. Konami publishes no resolution figures for PS5, Xbox or PC, and has announced no platform-specific enhancements.
Any comparison telling you PS5 looks sharper or Switch looks softer is inferring from screenshots, not from a spec. Konami has published frame rate and download size only, so 60 fps versus 30 fps is as precise as the evidence gets until launch.
If you own a Switch 2
There is no Switch 2 edition, and Konami's product page never mentions Switch 2. What exists is the Switch build running through backward compatibility. Both Nintendo Life and GamesRadar reported after the demo launched that it sits at a smooth 60 fps on Switch 2, double the Switch lock. Both describe hands-on testing of the demo rather than an official Konami statement about the full game, and both flag softer resolution as the cost of running a non-native build. That makes the Switch version a competitive buy for Switch 2 owners, not a compromise.
The 60 fps claim is media-measured on the demo, which is a few gigabytes everywhere. Our demo guide covers where it ends and how long it runs; the Switch 2 page goes deeper on the compatibility wording.
Steam, Xbox Series and the PC question
Steam sells the Windows build only — no macOS or Linux version — and its store page lists concrete requirements, including a 16 GB RAM minimum alongside Windows 11 and a GTX 1650. That RAM floor is the line worth checking before you commit; our PC system requirements page breaks it down. Portable PC is a separate and less settled question, since console minimum specs are a rough guide for handheld hardware — see Belmont's Curse on Steam Deck.
Xbox Series X|S is confirmed at 60 fps and sold through the Microsoft Store alongside Xbox on PC, but no Game Pass timing has been announced, so plan to buy it outright.
Which version to buy, by player type
| If this is you | Buy | Because |
|---|---|---|
| You own a PS5 or Xbox Series | PS5 or Xbox Series | Officially 60 fps, and no published resolution difference to weigh against it |
| You play handheld on a Switch 2 | Switch version, demo first | Media testing reports about 60 fps on Switch 2, with softer resolution as the trade |
| An original Switch or Switch Lite is your only screen | Switch version, or skip | Locked 30 fps, and Nintendo warns Switch Lite behaviour may differ |
| You game on PC | Steam | 60 fps and the widest settings control; check the 16 GB RAM minimum first |
| You want the cheapest way in | Standard Edition anywhere | $29.99 everywhere, with identical content across platforms |
| You are not in a hurry | Wait for a sale | Konami's Steam Autumn Sale announcement of October 1, 2026 lists the game under upcoming titles, so launch pricing moves |
Buy on the machine you will actually play: Konami's transfer rule requires the demo and the full game to run on the same platform with the same account and the demo save retained, so progress does not follow you from a Switch save to a PS5 save. The full checklist is in demo save transfer rules.
What is still unpublished
- Per-platform resolution targets, HDR support, or any performance mode for PS5, Xbox Series or PC.
- A native Switch 2 edition, or any Switch 2-specific feature from Konami.
- Whether the demo's frame pacing and room-to-room loading hold up in the full game.
- Review scores or a player rating. The game has not shipped and the Steam page shows no user reviews.
Launch details are the solid ground: October 15, 2026 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and Nintendo Switch.
FAQ
Is Belmont's Curse the same on PS5 and Switch? Yes, apart from frame rate and download size. Konami lists the same two editions, content and US prices on both — Switch locked to 30 fps, PS5 to 60 fps, with no published resolution difference.
Does the Switch version run at 60 fps on Switch 2? Media reported a smooth 60 fps on Switch 2 when the demo launched, double the Switch lock, but there is no native Switch 2 build and no official Konami confirmation for the full game.
Is there a Switch 2 edition with better graphics? No. Konami has not announced one, and the Nintendo Store lists a single build for both Switch and Switch 2 at the same 4.2 GB estimated size.
Can I move my demo save from Switch to PS5? No. The demo and the full game must run on the same platform with the same account, and the demo save must be retained.
