How Rose, Trevor, Richter and Julius compare across the series, and where the new hero fits among the Belmonts.
Castlevania Who Is the Strongest Belmont Ranked
Julius Belmont is the strongest Belmont: he won the 1999 Demon Castle War and destroyed Dracula for good, the one feat no other Belmont matched. Richter Belmont ranks second for his mastery of the Vampire Killer, Simon Belmont third for killing a fully revived Dracula twice, and Trevor Belmont fourth. Rose Belmont stays unranked because only the demo is playable so far.

Konami has never published an official power ranking, so this list scores canonical feats instead of popularity: who ended Dracula permanently, who beat him at full strength, and who needed allies. Polls and ranking outlets agree on the top two and argue about the rest, and each entry below says exactly where the argument lives.
How the ranking works
Three tests decide every slot, in this order.
| Test | What it asks | Why it comes first |
|---|---|---|
| Finality | Did the hunter end Dracula instead of postponing him | Only one Belmont ever managed it, and that settles first place on its own |
| Solo strength | Could the hunter beat a fully revived Dracula without a party carrying him | Separates the middle of the list, where team wins and solo wins look alike |
| Whip mastery | How completely does the hunter command the Vampire Killer and its techniques | Breaks ties between hunters with similar kill records |
A note on continuities: the Lords of Shadow reboot runs on its own timeline and is excluded here. Every hunter below belongs to the main timeline, the same one Belmont's Curse continues in 1499.
1. Julius Belmont, the Belmont who ended Dracula
Julius holds first place by a margin no other Belmont can close. In 1999 he fought the Demon Castle War and destroyed Dracula so completely that the cycle of resurrections stopped. Every earlier Belmont beat Dracula and watched him return a generation later. Julius is the one who made the victory stick.
He paid for it with his memory. When he appears in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, set in 2035, he arrives as a bearded stranger who sealed away his own past, and he still fights like the strongest living hunter: high health, balanced attack and defense, and a boss fight most players remember as one of the hardest in the game. Dawn of Sorrow, set a year later in 2036, keeps him in the same role. The series timeline guide places both entries at the far end of the chronology, which is itself the point: Julius belongs to the era after the war was already won.

Nobody serious disputes this slot. The open question is only whether anyone will ever pass him, and Rose would need a full game of escalating feats to enter that conversation.
2. Richter Belmont, the greatest master of the whip
Richter is the consensus second place, and his case rests on technique rather than finality. He headlines Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, set in 1792, and opens Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, set in 1797, by defeating Dracula in the fight the game replays as its prologue. Symphony of the Night itself treats him as the unbeatable standard: Alucard describes him as the ultimate vampire hunter, and the dark priest Shaft steals his body precisely because no ordinary vessel could hold that much power.
His signature is the Item Crash, the super attack that pours extra hearts into a sub-weapon for massive damage, plus a close-combat and martial skill set that later games kept showcasing in crossover appearances. Fan discussion sometimes phrases it as Richter being the greatest wielder of the Vampire Killer even though Julius has the greater kill record, and that distinction is fair. Mastery of the weapon and finality of the kill are different tests, and Richter owns the second test outright.
Media rankings land in the same place. Shacknews puts Julius first and keeps Richter directly behind him, and TheGamer's ranked list frames the same top pair the same way.
3. Simon Belmont, the hunter who killed Dracula twice
Simon sits third on volume of solo work. In the original Castlevania, set in 1691, he storms the castle alone and kills a fully revived Dracula. In Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, set in 1698, he gathers the scattered remains of Dracula across the countryside and destroys him again. Two kills at full strength, both largely unaided, is a record only Julius surpasses in finality.
His era also defines the classic Belmont toolkit: the whip upgraded through hidden candles, hearts spent on sub-weapons like throwing knives, holy water, and the boomerang-like cross. If Richter represents the perfected form of that style, Simon represents its founding statement. The Anniversary Collection bundles both of his games alongside Castlevania III, so his whole case is playable on current hardware.
Rankings make more sense after one hour with each hunter. Simon's two games and Richter's Rondo of Blood are all in the Anniversary Collection, while Julius needs Aria of Sorrow. Settle second versus third by comparing how each fight feels, not by comparing reputations.
4. Trevor Belmont, the first to win and Rose's father
Trevor's position needs context, because fourth undersells his importance. In Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, set in 1476, he becomes the first Belmont to defeat Dracula, and he does it at the head of a party: the mage Sypha Belnades, the pirate Grant Danasty, and Dracula's own son Alucard. A team win still counts as a win, but it ranks below the solo kills above on the second test.
What lifts Trevor in this particular ranking is relevance. He marries Sypha, fathers Rose, and appears in Belmont's Curse as her companion rather than a memory. Konami's own character pages name Rose as the daughter of Trevor Belmont and describe Trevor fighting beside her in 1499 Paris, twenty-three years after Dracula's Curse. The family tree breakdown untangles the early reports that named the wrong Belmont, and the cast and voice credits list who plays both hunters.

5. The rest of the clan, briefly
Below the top four the gaps widen and the evidence thins, so short verdicts are more honest than long ones.
| Hunter | Era | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Juste Belmont | 1748, Harmony of Dissonance | Fifth. A gifted spell-blade and Simon's grandson, but his Dracula was a wraith inside the castle, not a full resurrection. |
| Leon Belmont | 1094, Lament of Innocence | Sixth. The clan founder who forged the Vampire Killer from his beloved's soul. Founding the style is not the same as perfecting it. |
| Christopher Belmont | 1576 and 1591, The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge | Seventh. Killed Dracula twice like Simon, but against a weaker, slower resurrection, and his games show it. |
| Soleil Belmont | 1591, Belmont's Revenge | Unranked. Spent his game possessed by Dracula's spirit, so there is no clean feat to score. |
Where Rose Belmont fits
Rose is the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, born shortly before Sypha died of Dracula's curse, and her adventure opens in Paris in 1499. She carries that curse in her right arm, wields the Vampire Killer, and seals defeated bosses into a tarot deck of Arcana cards that become spells with their own upgrade tasks. The Arcana system guide covers the full loop, and the weapons and relics guide covers her loadout beyond the whip.
Two facts keep her off the ranked list for now. First, only the demo is publicly playable, and her whip does not even arrive until after the demo's only boss falls. Second, her best-documented fight is the win over The Fallen, a sewer monster rather than Dracula himself. A strong debut, but ranking her against hunters with full Dracula kills would be guessing. Revisit this page after the October 15, 2026 launch: if she faces Dracula at full strength, her placement starts around fifth with room to climb.

FAQ
Is Julius Belmont officially the strongest? No official ranking exists. He is the consensus strongest because his feat is unique: winning the 1999 Demon Castle War and ending Dracula's resurrections. Every list that scores canonical feats lands him first.
Is Richter stronger than Simon? By whip mastery and technique, yes, and most rankings put Richter second. By raw kill count the two are close, since both beat Dracula at full strength. The tiebreaker is Symphony of the Night treating Richter as the unbeatable standard.
Is Trevor the weakest Belmont? No. Leon, Christopher, and the possessed Soleil all sit below him. Trevor's 1476 victory was a team win, which caps him at fourth, but it was still the first Dracula kill in clan history.
Where does Rose Belmont rank right now? Nowhere firm. Only the demo is playable, her documented kills stop at The Fallen, and her full-game opponents are unannounced. Expect a provisional slot around fifth if she meets Dracula at full strength after launch.
Does the anime change the ranking? The animated series makes Trevor look stronger than the games do, but this ranking scores game canon only. Mixing continuities is how most ranking arguments start, so keep them separate.
