Who Rose's father and family are, how she connects to Trevor and Sypha, and why early reports named the wrong Belmont.
Rose Belmont Parents: Family Tree Explained
Rose Belmont is the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, the two hunters who defeated Count Dracula together in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. She carries Dracula's curse in her right arm, journeys to Paris in 1499 beside her father, and lost her mother to that same curse shortly after she was born.
- Father: Trevor Belmont, the hero of Castlevania III, voiced by JB Blanc.
- Mother: Sypha Belnades, Trevor's fellow hunter, dead before the game opens.
- Setting: Paris, 1499, twenty-three years after the events of Dracula's Curse.
- The name confusion: early 2026 reports called the heroine Sonia Belmont, but Konami's official pages name only Rose.

Rose Belmont's father and mother
Konami states the parentage in plain terms on its official character page: Rose is "a new protagonist who bears Dracula's curse in her right arm" and "the daughter of Trevor Belmont, she is a young vampire hunter who wields a variety of weapons in addition to her whip." That single sentence settles the two most-asked questions at once: her father is Trevor Belmont, and she is a new character, not a returning one under a fresh look.

Her mother is Sypha Belnades, the sorceress who fought beside Trevor twenty-three years earlier. The same page gives Sypha's fate directly: she "fell victim to his curse and died soon after Rose was born." Rose therefore grows up with one living parent, and the mark on her arm is a family debt inherited at birth, not a wound picked up on the road. Full English and Japanese credits for all three sit on the characters and voice cast page, which lists Abby Trott as Rose, JB Blanc as Trevor and Alejandra Reynoso as Sypha.
The Belmont family tree around Rose
| Member | Relation to Rose | What Konami confirms |
|---|---|---|
| Trevor Belmont | Father | Defeated Dracula twenty-three years ago with the Vampire Killer; travels to Paris with Rose |
| Sypha Belnades | Mother | Fought beside Trevor in Dracula's Curse; died of Dracula's curse soon after Rose was born |
| Rose Belmont | Herself | New protagonist; bears Dracula's curse in her right arm; wields whip plus other weapons |
| Count Dracula | Source of the curse | Immortal king of the castle, defeated once, returned three years later |
The timeline needs no homework. Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is set in 1476, where Trevor and Sypha marry at its end; Belmont's Curse is set in 1499, twenty-three in-universe years later. That gap is exactly Rose's generation. Where the game sits in the wider series order, including which older entries share its continuity and which do not, is mapped on the first Castlevania guide.
How Rose connects to Trevor and Sypha in the story
Trevor is not a boss to unlock or a costume to earn. Konami describes him travelling down the River Seine with Rose in response to a call for help from Paris, which makes him an NPC companion for this story. Rose is the only confirmed playable character: the demo lets you move Rose alone, and Konami's system pages only ever describe customising her battle style. If you want to hear the father-daughter dynamic before launch, the demo guide covers where to download the free opening chapter.
Sypha shapes the story by her absence. Her death to the curse is the reason Rose carries it, and it is the reason the Midnight Edition pairing Trevor and Sypha costumes together reads as a memorial set rather than a random bundle. In combat terms, Rose inherits both bloodlines: the Belmont whip plus a wider weapon and relic loadout, detailed on the weapons and relics page, and the Arcana card system that seals beaten bosses into her tarot deck, covered in the Arcana system guide.
The demo never pauses for a history lesson. Trevor's role as travelling father comes through in the opening scenes on the road to Paris, which take about ten minutes to reach. Treat those scenes as the introduction and this page as the reference.
Why early reports named the wrong Belmont
If you read coverage from February or June 2026 and came away thinking the heroine is Sonia Belmont, that reporting was wrong. In June 2026 a Sony listing reportedly identified the new lead as Sonia Belmont, a character from the older handheld-era games, and several outlets repeated the name before Konami published its own character pages. Trailer coverage afterward had to correct the record point by point, with one video titled around the reveal carrying the message that the name is "NOT Sonia."
A fan theory then tried to rescue the early name by reading Rose as a reimagined Sonia. Konami's official text leaves no room for it: every English and Japanese page names Rose Belmont and never uses the name Sonia. Sonia belongs to series background, specifically the much older Legends era, not to this game's plot. The characters and voice cast page keeps the older lineage clearly separate from the Belmont's Curse family tree.
Media source: TimeExtension on the June 2026 Sonia listing — the outlet that documented how the wrong name spread.
Media source: GamesBeat on the Rose reveal — names Rose Belmont as the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades with the October 15 launch date.
Search results from the first half of 2026 repeat Sonia Belmont as fact because they were written before Konami's character pages went live. Check the date on anything claiming the heroine's name: anything before June 2026 is working from the Sony listing, not from Konami.
What the family tree means for players
Practically, the parentage changes very little about how you play and a lot about why the story starts. Three consequences are worth knowing before October 15:
- No prior game is required. The story is self-contained: cursed daughter and surviving father answer a call from Paris. Castlevania III adds colour, not prerequisites.
- Expect Trevor beside you, not under your control. No official source offers him as playable, so plan every build, relic and Arcana choice around Rose alone.
- The curse is the plot engine. Rose does not stumble into Dracula's path by accident; she was marked by him before she could walk, which is why Paris and the castle come to her generation.
Prices, platforms and editions are unaffected by any of this, and the FAQ hub collects the launch questions the demo release raised.

FAQ
Who are Rose Belmont's parents? Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. Konami's character page names Rose as Trevor's daughter, and identifies Sypha as her mother, who died of Dracula's curse soon after Rose was born.
Is Rose Belmont actually Sonia Belmont? No. Sonia Belmont is an older series character whom early 2026 reports wrongly attached to this game. Konami's official pages name the heroine Rose Belmont and never use the name Sonia.
Is Trevor Belmont playable in Belmont's Curse? No playable Trevor has been announced. He travels with Rose as a story companion, and the demo lets you control Rose only.
Did Sypha die before the game starts? Yes. Konami states she fell victim to Dracula's curse and died soon after Rose was born, twenty-three years before the 1499 Paris story.
Does Rose connect to other Belmonts like Simon or Richter? Only through the clan bloodline, not the plot. Simon, Richter and Julius belong to later centuries of series chronology; this game's family story involves Trevor, Sypha and Rose alone.
Where can I verify the family tree myself? On Konami's official character page, which carries the parentage, the curse detail and the English voice credits, and on the Steam store page, which describes Trevor venturing out with his daughter Rose.
